10 Pinterest Recipes That Never Turn Out the Way They Should

You have seen it a million times. That #PinterestFail hashtag where people show you all the ways in which they managed to muck up that oh-so-cool Pinterest idea. Seriously, although it may look cool in the photo, sometimes things just aren't so easy to pull off in real life. Remember, most of us are mere mortals who lack the years of schooling and natural artistic inclinations of those who designed those online food wonders.

Just take a look at these ten epic fails we found that were based off online recipes that looked too good to eat (or be true).

1. Chocolate-Covered Kiwi Popsicle

This recipe from the ShowFood Chef blog looks too good to be true. It combines healthy kiwis and smooth chocolate to create a popsicle to put all others to shame.

The only problem is that, besides the fact that dipping fruit in chocolate never turns out as pretty as it is in the store, when you try to get a smooth coating and place it in the freezer, the feat becomes almost impossible.

2. Shark Cupcakes

These shark cupcakes are unbelievably cute. However, they also look like they were created by a pastry chef. Maybe because they were. This recipe comes from the incredibly popular Hello, Cupcake book that was written by a couple who has been decorating cakes for two decades.

Although it seems like a great idea, this incredibly difficult recipe will leave you floundering around in the kitchen. Seriously, the steps involved in creating these masterpieces will leave you lost and stranded before you can even take a bite out of them.

3. Train Cake

It may look like birthday perfection, but this creation is destined to be more of a train wreck than a train cake. Although this Betty Crocker recipe promises to produce a cake that's "right on track", this cake involves three hours and 30 minutes of work.

Think about it, that's almost half of a work day to make something that will be devoured in the span of 15 minutes. Even if this is the little engine that could, you probably can't.

4. Cookie Dough Bowls

Maybe this didn't work out because normally muffin pans are designed to have the dough placed on the inside?

Whatever the reason, it's sad to see that instead of perfect ice cream bowls, these cookies really only leave you a gigantic mess to clean up. And who wants that?

5. Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Bites

Chocolate dipped fruit again. Seriously, there is a reason we buy it pre-made at that store! But to humor Pinterest let's assume that these could be made in an ice cube tray.

However, honestly, what ice cube tray have you ever seen that is strawberry shaped? That's right, there aren't any. Do you know why? Well, it's because these delicious little bites don't come homemade, they come from a specialty French chocolatier. Maybe that means that this recipe is best left to the professionals.

6. Rainbow Jello

Most kids love Jello. It's fun, it's colorful, and you can make shapes. Speaking of shapes, leave it to the creative minds of Pinteresters at Just a Pinch to design a multi-tiered Jello cake. There is no question that this recipe takes up Jello's wow factor, but it also takes up your time.

In order to achieve such symmetrical success, you have to refrigerate between every single layer, and if you don't. Well, you can see the results for yourself.

7. Minion Cake

No one will argue that minions are cute. It has the word mini in it, and everything that is mini is better, right?

However, even though their body design is sleek and they have only four colors, whenever you try to make a craft project that involves them it never turns out quite right. This includes when you try to bake a minion-shaped cake.

8. Peppermint Pretzel Rods

It may be that most wonderful time of the year, but this is certainly not the most wonderful recipe out there.

Not only is getting the peppermint to dry properly a project, but the packaging takes this recipe to a whole new level of difficult.

9. Fried Mozzarella Balls

Cheese melts, right? So what would make someone think that coating it in breadcrumbs before they bake it would prevent it from oozing all over the baking sheet?

Clearly there must be a better way to make cheese sticks.

10. Bunny Roll Fail

To be able to make homemade bread easily and preserve the right amount of crispy on the outside while the inside remains soft and squishy is not easy. In fact, that is why most people buy their bread instead of making it at home.

Plus, did you ever notice that any bread you buy looks kind of like bread? Perhaps that's because trying to coerce a yeasty substance into rising into its proper form is a lot more difficult that it looks.
