What would you do for your favorite kolache? The answer for most Texans would be to drive 50 miles, at least, to hit the Czech Stop in West, Texas or Dignowity Kolaches in San Antonio. While we traveled near and far to find the best kolaches in Texas, two brothers from Austin are taking this mission one step further on Saturday, December 23. Brothers Will and Todd Flanagan, 19 and 22 respectively, will run 50 miles from Bastrop to LaGrange, as reported by Austin360, to end up at Weikel's Bakery for the storied cream cheese kolaches.

The brothers aren't just running in pursuit of kolaches, however, they're also doing it for an amazing cause. Their run will raise money for the Gazelle Foundation, which is a non-profit organization headquartered in Austin that builds and develops systems to deliver clean water to those in Burundi, Africa.
You might see the Flanagans parallel to Highway 71 early Saturday morning as they plan to begin their run at 2 a.m. from Bastrop. Their goal is to reach the bakery for 6 p.m., even if they become too tired to run. They plan on making it there on foot however they can! Will Flanagan told Austin360 that the brothers "don't want pace to be a factor." Will loves kolaches and for his birthday every year, he drives 70 miles to Weikel's for his favorite thing.
They have a great support system built around them for the run: their mother and older brother will follow on bicycle, and their father by car. Austin360 reported that friends of the family will be driving by and encouraging the boys. The farthest they've ever run is 18 miles, and were inspired to do this trek after joining Gilbert's Gazelles, a running group in Austin led by Gilbert Tuhabonye, 10 years ago.
Weikel's is donating a tray of kolaches to the boys for their cause, and they hope to raise $10,000. If you want to donate, head on over to their CrowdRise page.
