Cyrus leads all country artists when it comes to American Music Awards nominations, although none of his potential wins come in country categories. For his involvement in Lil Nas X's year-defining hit "Old Town Road," Cyrus is up for Collaboration of the Year, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Song and Favorite Pop/Rock Song.

Lil Nas X also got nominated for New Artist of the Year, pitting him against Combs, Lizzo, Billie Eilish and Ella Mai.

As for the country categories, Combs and Brown challenge Thomas Rhett for Favorite Male Artist- Country, while Underwood vies for Favorite Female Artist- Country alongside Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris.

In another hotly-contested category, Combs ("Beautiful Crazy"), Dan + Shay ("Speechless") and Blake Shelton ("God's Country") received Favorite Song- Country nominations.

Favorite Duo or Group- Country pits Dan + Shay against established hit-makers Florida Georgia Line and Old Dominion. Favorite Album rounds out the country awards with Brown (Experiment), Dan + Shay (self-titled) and Underwood (Cry Pretty) as nominees.

Another Nashville artist, Taylor Swift, received five nominations: Artist of the Year, Favorite Album- Pop/Rock, Favorite Female Artist- Pop/Rock, Favorite Music Video and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. With 23 career American Music Award wins, Swift is one win shy of Michael Jackson's career record.

Speaking of all-time records, Swift can put her mark of four Artist of the Year wins further out of reach by winning against the stacked field of Post Malone, Halsey, Ariana Grande and Drake.

Finally, the soundtrack for the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga version A Star is Born, featuring the music of Lukas Nelson and Jason Isbell, received a Favorite Soundtrack nomination along with Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and Bohemian Rhapsody.

ABC will air the American Music Awards live on Nov. 24 from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
