Looks like he's not staying in California after all.

Kevin Costner has been spied in Denver -- so much for staying in California.

The Yellowstone star stopped to pose for photos with police officers at the Denver Union Station on July 21.

The trip comes on the heels of his statement that he "plan[s] on staying [at his California residence] at least through the end of this year." The statement dismayed Yellowstone fans eager to see the final episodes of the series, which shoots in Montana. Production of the chart-topping series had been delayed due to Costner's obligations to a different project, the Wild West drama film Horizon: An American Saga. Yellowstone production has been delayed even further amid the ongoing writers and actors strikes in Hollywood, and Costner's plans to stay in his California residence through the end of the year indicates production would not resume until 2024 at the earliest.

In a June 9 injunction requesting the court to remove estranged wife Christine Baumgartner from the couple's California home (which Costner purchased in 1988, before their 2004 nuptials), Costner said he needed to be in California to take care of his three kids. "I am a very hands-on father," he said, per The Daily Mail. "I drive our children to school, attend their events and am involved in their daily lives. I agree that, when I am on location filming, the children will spend more time with their mother. However, I do not anticipate that I will be on location for at least the rest of 2023."

Denver isn't terribly far from the set of Horizon, which is filmed in Utah. Costner directs, co-writes, finances, and acts in the film.

"We're deep into the production of #HorizonFilm, and, I have to tell you, I haven't felt this way about a movie since we were making Dances With Wolves," Costner wrote on Instagram in May. "Can't wait to share it with all of you."

Horizon presumably continued filming despite the writers' strike. But no word on whether the actors' strike, which began later, in July, brought production to a halt.
