There may be no two tastes more uniquely Texan than Big Red and barbecue, and on May 19, the city of San Antonio will celebrate both with the ninth annual Barbacoa & Big Red Festival.

Held at The Greenline at Brooks, the event features tons of vendors serving up their finest barbacoa tacos, and plenty of ice-cold "East Side Champagne" to wash it all down, along with live music and entertainment, games, children's activities, and more. The friendly atmosphere boasts foodie fun and the event's popularity with San Antonians proves that nothing can beat the best barbacoa in the state.
This is the first year that the event will be held at The Greenline at Brooks. In the past, San Antonio's Barbacoa & Big Red Festival was held at the R&J Music Pavillon. Event organizers say that the festival's new home, a 43-acre park on the south side of town will be bigger than ever. One of the festival founders, Tony Villareal, shares that the new spot (which was formally known Brooks City Air Force Base), has room for four live music stages.
According to the official website, tickets will be available soon. The event is slated to take place on Sunday, May 19. The event is still open for barbacoa vendors to apply to be a part of the festival.
This festival is definitely our own summer to-visit list, how about yours?
