BBQ Shrimp And Grits
This southern low-country favorite gets a kick from the bourbon BBQ sauce. Try these BBQ Shrimp and Grits for dinner tonight!
Ingredients
For The BBQ Sauce
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 1 cup diced onion
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 2 Tbsp cider vinegar
- 3 Tbsp molasses
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp hot sauce
For The Shrimp
- 1 1/2 lbs peeled and deveined large shrimp
- 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 cups prepared grits
- 1 Tbsp chopped freen onions
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and cook the onion and garlic until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in ketchup, bourbon, vinegar, molasses, brown sugar, and hot sauce. Bring to low heat and simmer until thickened, about 45 minutes.
- Transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until smooth. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
- Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Oil the grill with the vegetable oil. Brush the shrimp with 1/2 cup of the sauce and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill until pink and firm, about 5 minutes.
- Serve on grits sprinkled with green onions and remaining bbq sauce.
Notes
This BBQ sauce would be great with ribs or pulled pork.
The BBQ sauce can be made up to 5 days ahead.
