We never have to stay in a winter slump for too long because Mardi Gras is right around the corner after New Year's. This year, Fat Tuesday falls on February 13, making February 14 Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday. Talk about a packed weekend. Blue Bell is known for its seasonal flavors, everything from Peppermint Bark to Christmas Cookie (never mind that it sold out before December last year), and people wait with bated breath for the next press release and announcement. However, it seems that Blue Bell tried to quietly slip one by us this year.

Blue Bell released its Mardi Gras King Cake ice cream across Louisiana sometime in the last week, and happy customers have been taking lots of photos to show their find. The perennial Mardi Gras favorite, this ice cream features cinnamon cake laced with Mardi Gras-colored swirls of cream cheese and candy sprinkles in purple, green, and gold.
Blue Bell Ice Cream confirmed the release with The Times-Picayune, stating, "Mardi Gras King Cake is available in Louisiana." There's no word yet on if there will be a wider release of the beloved ice cream, though NOLA Weekend hinted that it will also be available in parts of Southern Mississippi and Alabama. It's possible Blue Bell is just giving Louisianians a head start on enjoying this flavor since Mardi Gras is a New Orleans celebration.
Available in pint sizes in addition to the regular half gallon, the King Cake flavor is already flying off shelves in grocery stores. Texans, of course, aren't happy that they can't find the beloved flavor on shelves yet. Here are some lucky folks who were able to score a taste of their favorite Blue Bell flavor.
Will this flavor make it to Texas, Alabama, and other surrounding states in 2018? We'll keep you updated until we know more.
It just might be worth the special trip across state lines if you live in East Texas.
