Champion Eater Molly Schuyler Officially Holds Wing Bowl Record

A Philadelphia tradition since 1993, the Wing Bowl was originally created by WPI radio host Al Morganti to combat the idea that the Philadelphia Eagles would never make it to the Super Bowl. As the years passed (and the Eagles never made it into the Super Bowl), the event picked up pace and became an annual tradition.

And while the Philadelphia Eagles did get the chance to play (and win) against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII this year, it didn't mean that the Wing Bowl had to end anytime soon. Located at the Wells Fargo Center, the Wing Bowl actually turned into a game rally for the big game and people were more than excited to be a part of it.

Hosted by the local sports radio, the Wing Bowl is described as a boozy spectacle filled with flamboyant contestants and cheering Eagles fans. The competition is comprised of two separate competitions, with the women competing in an event named "wingettes."

Meet Molly Schuyler. Competitive eating is her game and she's won numerous food eating competitions including downing 93 dumplings in two minutes, eating 33 corndogs in eight minutes and even eating 5 pounds of bacon in three minutes. And we can't forget that she's won the Wing Bowl in 2014 and 2016.

This year, competitive eater Molly Schuyler totally shattered all records by eating 501 wings in total. Her winnings included $5,000 in cash, a new Hyundai Sonata, a ring and a metal. The second place contestant came in about 105 wings behind her. She topped her old wing-eating record of 444 chicken wings in 2015.

The rules are simple to follow. The competitive eaters will participate in 15 minutes heats. The top ten will move on to another 15 minute heat. The person who eats the most wings is deemed the winner. No vomiting or purging is allowed here-what goes in must stay in.

If all these talk about chicken wings is making you hungry (questionable at this point if you are picturing someone stuffing their face with wings) then take a look at our recipe for Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings served with a zesty dipping sauce.

We love that these wings are actually baked in the oven which makes these wings a bit healthier than their fried counterparts. You can either serve them dry or toss the wings in a bit of the sauce. And don't worry, you don't have to eat these as fast as you can.
