2019 has been the year of the chicken. Popeyes released their legendary chicken sandwich, Chick-fil-A battled, and McDonald's threw their very own yellow "M" hat into the ring by testing out two new chicken sandwiches in select markets. It looks like the McChicken Biscuit and Chicken McGriddle breakfast sandwiches were deemed successful because according to Business Insider and a leaked press release, the two fried chicken menu items are going to be apart of the fast-food giant's all-day breakfast menu.
Everything About the New Chicken McGriddle and McChicken Biscuit
Like the original McGriddle, the new Chicken McGriddle features a pair of maple-flavored griddle cakes. However, unlike the original, instead of a sausage patty, the McDonald's Chicken McGriddle features a seasoned McChicken patty.
As for the McChicken Biscuit, the new sandwich is created by placing a McChicken patty inside of a warm split biscuit. According to Business Insider, spicy versions of the sandwiches may be available in select markets.
The fast-food chain's new breakfast items join favorites like the Egg McMuffin, the Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit, and Hotcakes.
There's no news yet on when the breakfast sandwiches are to hit your local McDonald's, however, we'll be the first to let you know. Until then, why not make your own at home?
How To Make Homemade McDonald's McGriddles
Preparing your own McGriddle buns at home is surprisingly easy! First, prepare the maple "flakes" by cooking maple syrup until it almost turns into a caramel. Spread out the syrup and let chill, then smash into small pieces. Make a pancake batter (box mix is fine!), fold in the syrup flakes, and cook it in little round metal cookie cutters on your griddle. Once cooked all you need is to add your favorite fillings and you are good to go!
Copycat McChicken
Go all out and make yourself a homemade McChicken patty to pair with your McGriddle buns! You'll need some chicken breasts, eggs, and seasonings, but once you get it all together it'll taste just like the real thing.
