Buddy Valastro Shares Hand Injury is 'About 95%' Healed

"I say we're about 95% [healed] — which if that's as good as it's going to get, Rachael, I'll take it,"

The hand injury stemmed from a bowling accident last year. He injured himself after the bowling pinsetter malfunctioned and while fixing the issue his hand got stuck in the machine and a metal rod impaled his right hand three times between his ring finger and middle finger.

His wife Lisa Valastro and their four children (Sofia, 17, Buddy Jr., 16, Marco, 13, and Carlo, 10) all stepped up to help Buddy after the terrible accident. In one scene of TLC's special, Buddy Valastro: Road to Recovery, Buddy and his family are sitting around the dining room table as he tries to decorate a cake with his non-dominant hand. The reality tv star shows the struggles he must face as he uses his hands for work every single day.

After months of grueling physical therapy and a fifth surgery, the Carlo's Bakery owner is finally given the "okay" to decorate cakes again, competing against Duff Goldman in the Food Network show, Buddy vs. Duff.

"And the fact that I'm able to still do what I love — like doing that last season of 'Buddy vs. Duff,' it was amazing because of the fact that I could still do it."

He noted that the process was an "amazing ride" while the journey was not an easy one. After looking at the cake Buddy Valastro expertly decorates while talking with Rachael Ray,  it's clear that the cake decorator is back for good.
