Beyond Fried Chicken has been added to KFC restaurant menus across the country on Monday, January 10th. This limited time plant-based chicken nugget alternative is the first plant-based chicken product sold by a large national chain, so this is a big moment for both KFC and plant-based eaters who miss the deliciousness of chicken in their lives!

KFC U.S. president Kevin Hochman says that the nugget alternative was created for customers who "want to eat less animal protein but don't want to give up comfort food." In a press release, KFC, who is owned by Yum! Brands, said that the product is "packed with delicious flavor and the juicy satisfaction that you'd expect from KFC's iconic fried chicken."

The trending new menu item is available in a combo meal, which includes fries and a medium drink. It can also be ordered à la carte, in either 6-piece or 12-pieces servings. Beyond Fried Chicken comes with a choice of sauces, including Honey BBQ, KFC Sauce, Classic Ranch, or Honey Mustard Sauce.

Is KFC Beyond Fried Chicken Vegan?

Although it's made of pea protein and contains no chicken, it's important to note that the Beyond Fried Chicken is still prepared in shared fryers in KFC kitchens. Therefore, it's possible that the plant-free iteration is cross-contaminated with real chicken products.

Depending on your dietary restrictions, this means that some vegans and vegetarians won't be able to enjoy this latest product. However, for those who are okay with a small amount of cross-contamination, Beyond Fried Chicken is a delectable plant-based treat full of the juicy flavor and texture of chicken.

The "Kentucky Fried Miracle," first became available in Atlanta in 2019, where it sold out in hours. The product was then tested in KFC locations in Charlotte, Nashville and Southern California. Fortunately for the rest of us, the testing was wildly successful, and the faux-meat product is now available across the country.

As explained by Hochman, "the mission from day one was simple — make the world-famous Kentucky Fried Chicken from plants. And now over two years later we can say, 'mission accomplished.'" To try this plant-based new product, hit up your local KFC or order it on the KFC app or on KFC.com.
