'The Voice' Just Teased a Game-Changing New Rule

A major change is coming next week.

On the Tuesday night (Nov. 14) episode of The Voice, host Carson Daly praised the level of competition so far in season 24.

"The artists are getting better and better [this season]," Daly said at the end of the episode. "[In] the Blinds, we've had more four-chair turns than we've ever had. The Knockouts, we've never seen anything like it."

To build on this momentum while keeping the show fresh, a big change is coming next week to the series' format.

"We've changed the rules," Daly added. "We've had to do something rather drastic— something that's never been done in 24 seasons on The Voice."

The show ended on that cliffhanger. However, a teaser of next week's episodes implies that past contestants may be allowed to return to coaches' teams. How this'll work remains a mystery, making for quite the hook to tune in on Monday.

It's not the first new wrinkle to the show's format. Blocks and saves entered the picture in 2018, and in 2024, the first two-seater coaches chair will be filled by pop-country duo Dan + Shay.

Consider it another sign of change for the series as it continues its first season without Blake Shelton as a coach.

"Blake is one of a kind, and he helped create what The Voice has become, and obviously, his charm, and his wit and his comedic chops are something really signature to him," executive producer Audrey Morrissey told The Wrap in  September. "With that said, this season is so funny, and I think all the Coaches really, in their own way, fill the space that Blake left. It's just a new dynamic and a new thing. It feels fresh, it feels alive, it feels new— it's like a rebirth."
