Fox4News recently landed an exclusive interview with the country icon in his home. When the reporter asked Travis how he was feeling, he simply smiled and said, "Good." When asked about making a comeback in the music world, he chuckled, smiled when and simply he responded with, "I don't know."
"You're trying," his wife, Mary, said while looking at her husband. "We're working hard at it." Travis agreed with his wife's positive sentiments. She's been by his side throughout his incredible recovery.
This is huge progress from Travis. At one point, doctors told Mary to consider letting go of her husband while he was in a coma. He wasn't ready to give up though.
"I asked him, 'Do you want to keep fighting? Give me some more fight if you have it.' And he squeezed my hand and a little tear fell down and I knew then that he wasn't ready to give up."
Travis is still not ready to give up. He's made huge strides even though he's faced a tough battle. In October of 2016, he sang during his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He performed an emotional version of "Amazing Grace" and shocked the country music world. Although he'd made public appearances, this was a moment fans had been waiting for.
During 2016's CMA Awards, he was even able to sing during the live broadcast. It was a moment that left many in tears.
He still has work to do, but Mary says singing is easier for Travis than speaking, so we're very optimistic he'll make his comeback. It's a moment we can't for.
For now, fans can look forward to the one-night only tribute to Travis' music legacy in Nashville. The star-studded event keeps getting bigger and bigger. Garth Brooks was just added to the already jam-packed lineup.
