It's been almost a year since Williams announced his retirement from country music. "The Gentle Giant" had an impressive career that spanned 17 No. 1 hits, so it comes as no surprise that artists are coming together to honor his legacy.

Williams' longtime producer Garth Fundis is the man behind Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams. Brandy Clark, Trisha Yearwood, Alison KraussLady AntebellumPistol AnniesJason Isbell with Amanda Shires and John Prine are some of the other talents featured on the album.

The tribute record is a celebration of Williams' impressive work and accomplishments in music. But it's also a way for Fundis to give back to his friend.

"It has been my privilege to work frequently with Don through the years, and I'm proud to honor him with this new project," the producer said in a release. "All of the artists on the album have been huge Don Williams fans for years. It makes the entire project very personal and very meaningful."

The 11-track album will feature new renditions of Williams' classic songs. Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams drops on May 26. That release date also hits one day before Williams turns 78 years old.

You may know Williams from his tracks "Some Broken Hearts Never Mend," "You're My Best Friend." and "I Believe in You." When the Texas native first appeared on the music scene, he was part of The Pozo Seco Singers. After making it big as a solo artist, Williams released a hit song every year from 1974 to 1991.
