Miranda Lambert got her first taste of fame on the debut season of Nashville Star in 2003. Just a few years later, she released Kerosene, the album that officially introduced her to the country music world. But the folks in Miranda's hometown of Lindale, Texas were already well aware of her songwriting prowess. Lambert's pre-stardom 2001 album is a true gem and includes one track that should seriously be on the shortlist for the new Texas state song.

"Texas As Hell" is the ultimate anthem for every tough Texan and proof that the spitfire singer has always been country to the core. Lambert's twangy vocals are reminiscent of early Tanya Tucker. Even back then she packed the same don't-mess-with-me attitude that we later fell in love with. Lambert is basically the embodiment of the phrase "Don't Mess With Texas."

Of course, die-hard fans of the country singer are already well versed in the classic Miranda discography. But if you're a newer devotee, Lambert's entire first album is well worth a listen. As the story goes, the Texan went to Nashville when she was 16 for a recording session. Fed up with the pop-country songs she was given, she moved back to her home state to learn guitar and started writing her own songs. Based on her incredibly successful career, it seems she made the right choice.
"Texas As Hell" Lyrics
I'm Texas as hell
Mean 'n ornery
I don't need no loud mouth
Comin' on to me
My temper gets hotter than red white and blue blazes
You know dog-gone well everybody can tell I'm Texas as hell
Well I know I haven't been around a long time
But I've heard my share of
Those worn out love lines
If you ain't redneck
Dont waste your time
Because right now I'm in a lonestar state of mind
And I'm Texas as hell
Mean 'n ornery
I don't need no loud mouth
Comin on to me
My temper gets hotter than red white and blue blazes
You know dog-gone well everybody can tell
I'm Texas as hell
Well I guess you think that I'll be persuaded
But how many times do I have to say this
Don't mess with me boy
For heaven's sake
Didn't anybody tell you messin with Texas was a big mistake
Cus' I'm Texas as hell
I'm mean 'n ornery
I don't need no loud mouth comin on to me
My temper gets hotter than red white and blue blazes
You know dog-gone well everybody can tell
I'm Texas as hell
You know dog-gone well everybody can tell I'm Texas as hell
