This Guy's Cover of Chris Stapleton's 'I Was Wrong' Will Blow You Away

When we launched our Chris Stapleton Cover Contest last month, we knew we'd find some raw and impressive talents. Our contest winner, Kelvin Damrell, exceeded our expectations. We were absolutely blown away when we heard his cover of Stapleton's "I Was Wrong."

This is not an easy song to sing, but Damrell managed to mimic Stapleton's technique and then some. The Kentucky native says he knows 98 percent of Stapleton's catalog, even the deep cuts, but identifies vocally with this song more than any of the others. "I Was Wrong" appears on Stapleton's sophomore album, From A Room, Vol. 1.

Damrell has been singing since he was 11 years old. He learned by watching his father pick guitar and sing. Today, he writes original music, but hasn't recorded anything yet. After listening to his cover, we hope he takes the next step and records some tracks or at least more videos.

As the first place winner of our contest, Damrell will take home $1,000 in cash, along with a vinyl and cd copy of Stapleton's new album, From A Room, Vol. 1He and his wife have a baby due soon, so he says most of the money will go towards that. But he hopes some of the winnings will help him buy recording equipment.

If you enjoyed Damrell's cover, check out the other video covers in our contest. We were amazed by the volume of talented musicians and singers who submitted their covers.

"I Was Wrong" Lyrics

I've been thinking 'bout my thoughtless words
And I know just how much they must have hurt
And I take it back
Won't you let me take it back

You know I told you that I don't love you
That I'd be better off with someone new
But I take it back
Won't you let me take it back

Girl you know that I still love you
And you know that I'm so alone
I don't know why
I told you that I didn't need you
Can't you see that baby I was wrong

What I wouldn't give to be your lover again
All I want to do is touch your skin
If I had you right here right now
I'd tell you, tell you, tell you, tell you

Girl you know that I still love you
And you know that I'm so alone
I don't know why
I told you that I didn't need you
Can't you see that baby I was wrong
