Keith Davison of Morris, Minn. was struggling with the emptiness in his house following the death of his wife, Evy, in April 2016. The Davisons were married for 66 years when Evy passed away from cancer.
Davison opened up about his loss to KARE. "You just can't imagine what it's like. You cry a lot. That's just the way it is, because she's not here."
Davison wanted to do something that would make his home lively again. So he started construction on the pool last spring. Workers finished building Davison's pool in July, and the retired judge invited the whole neighborhood over.
There's not a public pool in Morris, so Davison's generous gesture has been a hit with the locals. His only requirement is that a parent come along to watch over the children.
"It's him spreading joy throughout our neighborhood for these kids," neighbor Jessica Huebner said to KARE.
Once they'd heard his story, People interviewed Davison about his kindness. "I had a fairytale life," he explained. "And after my wife died, that ended."
The Davisons have three grown children but no grandchildren. Having the pool filled Davison's house with the sounds of happy children, and made his grief, a little easier to bear.
