Shooter Jennings and producer Dave Cobb have joined the ranks of country music artists who have now donated to help rebuild Texas. After Hurricane Harvey left the state in destruction earlier this month, the duo felt compelled to do their part in the rebuilding process. Now, Jennings has released "Do You Love Texas?," a playful ode to the state's finest attributes. Proceeds of the lively number will be donated to the Rebuild Texas Fund.
An all-star country cast featuring Kacey Musgraves, Kris Kristofferson, Randy Rogers, Jason Boland, Ray Benson and Whiskey Myers join Jennings on "Do You Love Texas?" They make up the Texas-sized harmony choir for the good-natured number. Texas icons throughout such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and even Jerry Jones are all name-dropped throughout. Legendary music venues like Gruene Hall, Floore's Country Store and The White Elephant Saloon are also mentioned in the ode.
"Texas was always great to us and it's the birthplace of many of our heroes," Cobb recently told Entertainment Weekly. "After we recorded the song and Harvey had done so much damage, it just felt right to donate all proceeds to help any way we can. As they say, 'T for Texas, T for Tennessee.'"
Jennings and Cobb began working on the spirited number before Harvey even hit Texas. The two were both in the studio when Cobb suggested to Jennings he write a "Texas song" as a nod of appreciation to the state. Jennings jokingly asked Cobb, "Do you love Texas?" Cobb gave a replied with a rousing "Hell yeah!" But after seeing Harvey's destruction, Jennings and Cobb felt the need to change the songs' purpose.
All proceeds of "Do You Love Texas?" will be donated to Harvey relief organization Rebuild Texas Fund. Started in Harvey's aftermath, the Rebuild Texas Fund has currently raised $68.6 million dollars of their $100 million dollar goal.
