Premiere: Andrew Combs Shares Soulful Acoustic Performance of 'Black Sheep Boy'

Andrew Combs has become known as one of the most tenderly soulful new voices in Americana. Today, we're exclusively premiering his Amazon Acoustic performance of "Black Sheep Boy."

The song, originally penned by acclaimed folk artist Tim Hardin, cleverly tells the story of an outcast fulfilling his dreams in just two verses and a chorus. Although short and sweet, the tune is elevated by Combs' smooth vocals that make you feel like the lyrics come straight from his heart.

"I'm always drawn to the songwriter who has the ability to say so much with so little," Combs tells Wide Open Country. "Tim Hardin was one of those guys. This song, structurally and chord wise isn't complex. But coupled with his melancholy lyrics, and that beautiful vibrato vocal, it makes for something special."

In April, Combs released Canyons Of My Mind, his third full-length LP. Compared to previous releases, it takes a deeper dive into some of everyday life's toughest subjects, like mental illness, gentrification and the meaning of everything in between.

Andrew Combs is wrapping up his U.S. tour and will head overseas for more performances later this month. You can find a full list of his upcoming concert dates here.
