Officer Mason was pursuing a suspect in a bank robbery last July when the suspect shot him in the face. Despite his injury, he continued his pursuit, eventually catching up to the robber who shot him. Officer Mason recovered from his wound.
Stapleton heard about Officer Mason's story and knew he had to meet him. While in town to play the Jacksonville stop of his All-American Roadshow Tour, Stapleton stopped by the sheriff's office to meet Mason and other members of the force to thank them for serving their community.

A photo of Stapleton and Officer Mason was shared to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Facebook page. "Thank you Mr. Stapleton for taking the time out of your day to honor us," the caption read. "From all of us at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, we thank you for your support."
Stapleton has spent the year giving back to others. He shared a special gift with his Kentucky hometown, and performed at multiple charity events, including this weekend's Country Rising benefit concert.
