Dixie Chicks Surprise Fans with New Live Album on Streaming Services

A Dixie Chicks live album with songs from the DCX MMXVI Tour, teased earlier this week via social media, arrived today, Jan. 12, via streaming services. As some suspected, it's the audio component of the two CD, one DVD DCX MXVI Live combo pack the group released back in September.

The lengthy world tour broke a two-year hiatus for the band and marked their first widespread U.S. tour in a decade. It took them across Europe, Canada and the United States over a bulk of 2016 and the spring months of 2017. A camera crew shot footage at the Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Melbourne and Hamilton shows for the film DCX MMXVI Live. Following a one-night theatrical release, the film was paired with two audio CDs of live tracks for release by Columbia Records.

The Dixie Chicks took the Taylor Swift approach to releasing the audio from the set to the streaming world, holding off a while after the CD arrived in stores. Now a broader audience can hear a strong representation of the group's sound and set list circa 2016. Both CDs capture a healthy helping of classic Dixie Chicks cuts ("Wide Open Spaces, Sin Wagon" and so on) and a diverse cover song repertoire (Beyonce's "Daddy Issues," Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and Patty Griffin's "Don't Let Me Die in Florida").
