Country singer and songwriter Jamey Johnson has announced a lengthy and ambitious 2018 tour of the South and Midwest. The 31-date trek keeps the singer on the road for multiple dates per month until at least the middle of the year.

Johnson, a revered songwriter turned old-school country music purveyor, plays shows without a set list. This approach, shared by Dale Watson and other traditionalists, adds unpredictability and audience participation to each live appearance. This time, he brings his free-form take on live performances to a mix of theaters, auditoriums and festival stages. Among the notable dates is an April 27 stop at MerleFest, an annual root music celebration named after the late Merle Watson.
Like Brandy Clark, Lori McKenna and numerous others, Johnson wrote hits for the stars before plotting his own successful solo career. Past Johnson compositions include Trace Adkins' "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk." Despite releasing three top six albums in a five year span (2008-2012), Johnson hasn't released a new full-length since. Last summer, he revealed that a concussion slowed down his creative process.
