Nashville singer-songwriter Erin Rae's new album, Putting On Airs, sees its release today, June 8, via Single Lock Records. Her rose-tinted music video for the single "June Bug" perfectly sets the tone for viewers to take a journey through the intimate, moody and psychedelic landscape her record paints.
On Facebook, Rae explained that music video director Joshua Shoemaker "created this hauntingly beautiful 'summer nights' film" for "June Bug." She said that "Josh perfectly captured the hazy, humid Nashville night that was my vision for the song." Shoemaker, who you may remember directed Margo Price's deeply personal video for "Hands of Time," made literal use of Rae's lyric, "If I had it to do again over" by reversing a single shot of Rae cutting up flowers and then playing it forward.

Even though the ethereal setting feels outside of reality, seeing Rae ruminating on the phone will feel familiar to anyone who has pined after a lost love. The video continues to take viewers deeper into a dreamlike state as the camera reveals friends and fellow Nashville performers Kashena Sampson, Molly Parden and Coco Reilly in the other room overtaken by nature. It's rare that someone would make note of who was behind the floral designs on the set, but for "June Bug," the flowers play such a large role that Rae gave a special shout-out on Facebook to floral designer Carrie Crowell of Crowell Floral for her work.
Rae is currently headed out on a solo tour following her gig supporting the Mountain Goats. Her solo venture, appropriately called the June Bug leg of her tour, will start off on June 9 in Florence, Ala. and run through June 29 and June 30, where she'll end up at home in Nashville playing The Basement. Rae is also set to play Dorset's End of the Road Festival in August.
