As soon as North Carolina veteran Mikele Buck started singing Brooks & Dunn's "She Used to be Mine" during the blind auditions on NBC's The Voice, coaches Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson were hooked.
Both coaches used the same strategy of waiting until the very end of the song to turn their chairs in hopes of winning over Buck.
Shelton appealed to Buck's appreciation for classic country, adding that country radio could use a singer like him.
"Listening to your voice, you're rough around the edges," Shelton said. "Those type of artists, the Travis Tritts, the Brooks and Dunns, we don't have any of those any more on the radio. You coming on to The Voice and singing that great, sad country song -- that's gonna hit America straight in the gut."
But Clarkson was determined to have Buck on her team, reiterating her longtime love of country music. The powerhouse singer even reminded Buck of her 2010 duet with Jason Aldean.
"Ronnie Dunn and Travis Tritt are my favorite country singers since I was a kid," Clarkson said. "I love that authentic side of country music. That's why I did that ballad with Jason Aldean. It sounded like '90s country -- that cool stuff we grew up on. Thats the kind of country music I love."
Buck shocked nearly everyone, Clarkson included, when he joined Team Kelly. The cheers from Bucks family, who are clearly big fans of Clarkson, may have helped the singer make his decision.

Now in its 15th season, The Voice continues to attract hopeful country singers. Danielle Bradbery, Cassadee Pope and RaeLynn are among some of the country stars who've gone on to have success after competing on the reality show.
This season, Kelsea Ballerini joins The Voice as a coach for the first ever Comeback Stage, a digital series which gives contestants who weren't chosen in the first round a chance to re-enter the competition.
