Los Angeles-based Americana duo Roses & Cigarettes first entered the scene with their 2015 self-titled album. Since then the duo, made up of Jenny Pagliaro and Angela Petrilli, has made a name for themselves as the embodiment of the SoCal country-rock sound, opening for Jim Lauderdale, Elizabeth Cook, Amanda Shires and more.

Now Roses & Cigarettes is gearing up to release their sophomore album Echoes and Silence (out on Feb. 22), a bold collection of songs recorded during an incredibly trying time for the duo. Several of the songs, including the recently released "Fast As I Can," address Pagliaro's battle with Stage IV cancer.
The album's title track, which Wide Open Country is premiering today, was first conceived as a guitar idea that Petrilli brought to the table and evolved into a mantra for the band.
"It was different from songs we had written previously for our first album, but I absolutely loved the vibe of the instrumental track," Petrilli tells Wide Open Country. "I sent it over to Jenny and told her, 'I know it's a little weird, if this inspires you at all, go for it. I think there is something here.' Jenny listened to the track and immediately wrote a beautiful melody filled with dark and light imagery, that was strung together by a mantra. Once we wrote it, we immediately started playing it out at shows, and both of us started to truly feel that his song was the beginning of a deeper level of songwriting exploration for Roses and Cigarettes moving forward."
Roses & Cigarettes will play an album release party at Los Angeles' The Mint on Feb. 22. For more information on the duo, visit here.
