Book lovers rejoice! If you live in or near Louisville, Kentucky, you should run to the Louisville Free Public Library. The new $18 million Northeast Regional Library, opened by the Louisville Free Public Library and Mayor Greg Fischer, has really taken the local library system to the next level with some incredible perks as well as an eco-friendly design. It was the final construction of three massive regional libraries across Louisville.

The 40,000 square foot new library opened on June 24 and has over 120,000 books to choose from. There are tons of relaxing chairs and reading nooks to sit back with your book, some of them are even built into the wall.
There's a little something for everyone at the library. As expected, there's a cafe with plenty of coffee to fuel up between reading. But there's also a makerspace that is full of equipment including an audio/visual lab with a recording studio, a demonstration kitchen that hosts cooking classes, a potters wheel, laser cutter and engraver, and even power tools. Talk about a one stop shop on the weekends to make everyone in the family happy!

Maybe the best part of the library? The giant slide that takes you through parts of the library. It's also a straight shot to the children's section. There's sections for the kids separate from the teens which is obviously important to all of the teenagers out there wanting to catch up on the popular YA novels. But adults will be happy with the public computers with free wifi and meeting rooms to give them the chance to catch up on work in a fun setting.
Go to lfpl.com to learn more about some of the cool events the libraries in the city of Louisville have to offer. The South Central Regional Library currently has a featured Artist-in-Residence. A lot of other events will be popping up throughout the year and, of course, we're currently in Summer Reading Program season.
