Sheryl Crow worked with co-writer and call-and-response vocal partner Chris Stapleton on the sorrowful, bluesy new song "Tell Me When It's Over." It appears on Crow's final album Threads, out Aug. 30.

The hard-hitting, slow-burning song should thrill fans of Stapleton's blues-inspired country sound. Likewise, the spiteful lyrics about an impending breakup are vintage Crow. "Tell me it's over," she insists at the song's emotional peak. "'Cause I don't want to be the last one to know."
Stapleton isn't the only country or Americana star featured on the duets album. Special guests include Maren Morris, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, Brandi Carlile, Johnny Cash, Lukas Nelson, Margo Price, Jason Isbell, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris and Vince Gill.
Crow's country and roots-centric album may be her last. In recent interviews, she's teased abandoning the format in favor of releasing digital singles. It's a similar approach considered by Blake Shelton and Keith Urban as veteran stars maneuver the digital age.
"Tell Me When It's Over" Lyrics
You wanna build your walls
I wanna knock them down
Looking for a heartbeat
I don't hear a sound
Anything's better
Than hanging 'round together
Knowing that the other one's through
And honestly, I don't think it's [the biggest we've ever seen?]
But it's feeling like we're breaking in two
Tell me when it's over
(Tell me when it's over)
Tell me when it's over
(Tell me when it's over)
Tell me when it's over
'Cause I don't wanna be
The last to know
And I count the days
But I think our number's up
Is there anyway, oh
To make you feel enough?
And I can see something's changed
Everything's feeling strange
And neither one of us knows why
And I don't wanna face it
We're in a situation
Where somebody's always saying goodbye
Tell me when it's over
(Tell me when it's over)
Tell me when it's over
(Tell me when it's over)
Oh, tell me when it's over
'Cause I don't wanna be
Caught up in a dream
(Caught up in a dream)
A love supreme
But I know it's coming
(And I know it's coming)
Yeah, I know it's coming
(And I know it's coming)
I see it in your face
(See it in your face)
You got a good thing going to waste
'Cause you keep on running
(Keep on running)
You keep on running away from love
