Y'all, the time has finally arrived. Even though it still feels like it's 200 degrees in Texas, it's finally fall, which means changing leaves, all things pumpkin, Halloween, and hopefully some cooler temperatures. Most importantly, the looming holiday means themed outings for some weekend fun all throughout October.

If you thought that seasonal train rides were just for Christmas, think again. This October, the Texas State Railroad can take you on a Pumpkin Patch train ride while dressed in your favorite Halloween costume. It's a spooky experience that's fun for the whole family. How perfect does that sound?
The Great Pumpkin Patch Express will be departing on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29 from the Rusk Train Station in Palestine, Texas. Trains depart at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.but the actual Pumpkin Patch in the Piney Woods opens up for visitors at 9 a.m. Make sure to check ticket availability here because only certain times are still open.
The Perfect Family Friendly Experience
The experience is incredibly popular with kids and it's no wonder why. There's a bounce house, a "Trick or Treat Street" so you can do some trick-or-treating before Halloween, and every child gets to leave with their own pumpkin to go home and carve their own jack-o-lantern. There are also interactive games with prizes as well as face painting. As if that wasn't enough family fun for you, there's also hayrides, food available for purchase, and spooky music to really set the scene. Honestly, you had me at trick-or-treating, but this really does sound like a child's dream experience.
Ticket prices range from $10 to $40 per ticket. Check the website to reserve your space. Obviously, it will cost a bit more to sit in first-class or the caboose, so make sure to choose what is right for your family. Each general ticket comes with a reserved open-air coach seat and your own designated train departure time. The best part? Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase for mom and dad. The entire experience is expected to last around 2 hours round trip.
