Dolly Parton Promises Uplifting, Faith-Filled CMA Performance

As part of her co-hosting duties alongside Carrie Underwood and Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton will perform what she's described as a "faith-based medley with a choir" during ABC's Nov. 13 broadcast of this year's CMA (Country Music Association) Awards.

Parton broke the news to The Boot and other outlets before the Grand Ole Opry's recent celebration of her 50 years as a member.

Recent songs by Parton, including the For King & Country collaboration "God Only Knows" and the Zach Williams duet "There Was Jesus," share a clear Christian slant. Presumably, a new song arriving right before the awards show airs titled "Faith" will keep this trend going.

According to Parton, her contributions to gospel and country music going forward will attempt to cancel out at least some of the negativity in our society.

"This world is just so dark and ugly and awful," Parton said. "I can't believe how we just can't have a little more light and a little more love. So I'm gonna try and make it my business to do more songs that are more uplifting. Not just all Christian-based songs, but songs that are just about better things, and have a little more light."

Parton, a longtime music awards show fixture and the CMA's 1978 Entertainer of the Year, will be one of three special guest hosts when the 53rd annual CMA Awards air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. Country Music Hall of Fame members Parton and McEntire will replace Underwood's usual co-host Brad Paisley in line with the show's theme of "celebrating the legendary women of country music."
