George Jones And Tammy Wynette's Daughter is Keeping Her Parents' Country Legacies Alive

Georgette Jones Lennon, the daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, followed her parents' lead and became a country singer. Born Tamala Georgette Jones on Oct. 5, 1970 in Lakeland, Fla., the second-generation star recorded her first song, the father-daughter duet "Daddy Come Home," at age 10 and performed it on an HBO special. The final album before Jones' death, 2008's Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets features another George and Georgette collaboration, "You and Me and Time." She's also honored her singer-songwriter mother in song, debuting "I Hope You Knew" on Mother's Day in 1999— a year after Wynette's death. Lennon's 2013 album Til I Can Make It On My Own is a tribute to the "Stand By Your Man" singer, whom she'd toured with as a backup singer.

As a live performer, she's toured extensively and appeared on the Grand Ole Opry.

IMDB gives Lennon writing credit for two episodes of George & Tammy, the Showtime original series about her parents that stars Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain. The show is derived from Lennon's book The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George, giving her some creative control over how stories about her parents' often-tragic lives in Nashville get retold.

It wasn't Lennon's first involvement in a TV show about her mother. She played Wynette in five episodes 2008 of Sordid Lives: The Series, which starred the late Olivia Newton-John and Leslie Jordan.

In Sept. 2022, Lennon penned an emotional letter to her dad for what would've been his 91st birthday that was published by People. It captures the ups and downs of being raised by a famous parent who'd battled with addiction.

"When I was very young and you were struggling, you wanted to protect me from that," Lennon wrote. "I didn't understand then, but years later my memaw told me you used to come by our house often while I was at school, and you'd stay in my room for hours while holding my picture on my bed and cry. I never told you I knew that because I knew you wouldn't want anyone to see you were vulnerable to emotions.

"When Mom died, you were there for me when I needed you most," she continued. "My anger and pain melted into your loving arms and we mended our hearts like they were sewn together. That meant everything to me. All I ever wanted was my dad and I finally had you in my life."

Though they, too, qualify as country music royalty, not much is known about Jones' other three children. Here's what little is known about Lennon's half siblings.
