Matthew McConaughey is stepping into a brand new role. The Texas actor is starring in a new podcast series based on John R. Erickson's children's book series Hank the Cowdog. McConaughey, who'll play the title character, will star alongside Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Cynthia Erivo, Scoot McNairy, Michael Shannon, Leslie Jordan, Erickson and more.

According to the podcast's official synopsis, "Hank the Cowdog, the self-declared 'Head of Ranch Security,' finds himself smack dab in the middle of a host of tangled mysteries and capers that span the universe of the Texas Panhandle cattle ranch Hank calls home. Hank is joined on these tail-wagging, tongue-slobbering adventures by a motley assemblage of characters, not least of which is his less-than trusty sidekick, Drover, a small but uncourageous mutt voiced by Jesse Plemons. Listen in as Hank the Cowdog always claims to know the answer, is the last to realize he doesn't, but is the first to run headlong into tales of courage, loyalty, and friendship."
The family podcast, from Tri-State Pictures, HTC Productions and QCODE, is written, directed and executive produced by Jeff Nichols (Mud, Loving, Take Shelter).
The season will debut on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and major podcast platforms on September 14. The Hank the Cowdog podcast has partnered with The National Ranching Heritage Center in Texas.

McConaughey will release his first memoir, Greenlights, on October 20, 2020. The book, which will showcase McConaughey's musings on life, is both an advice book and a chronicle of the superstar's life experiences.
"Ever since I learned to write, I've been keeping a journal -- writing down anything that turned me on, turned me off, made me laugh, made me cry, made me question or kept me up at night. Two years ago I worked up the courage to take all of those journals off into solitary confinement just to see what the hell I had. I returned with a book," McConaughey said.
