Song Premiere: Zoe Cummins Reimagines Leon Bridges' 'Beyond' From a Woman's Perspective

Singer-songwriter Zoe Cummins' tender cover of Leon Bridges' love song "Beyond" is a call for inclusivity. The Nashville-based artist reimagines the song, first recorded for Bridges' 2018 album Good Thing, from a female perspective.

Cummins, who grew up in a small farming community in southwest Oklahoma, says she wanted to record a love song in which LGBTQIA+ folks would see themselves represented.

"I've been out to my parents about dating women since I was 17, so sometimes that being a unique thing about a woman in country music flies right over my head," Cummins tells Wide Open Country. "But I know that it's important to talk about; I'd love for my version of this tune to reach other LGBTQIA+ females and make them feel comfortable with who they are and have something to sing along with that comes from the heart."

Cummins, who's been playing music since she was six years old, lists Miranda Lambert and Dolly Parton among her greatest influences.

"I grew up with all kinds of music: country, pop, blues and rock & roll, and I think that's what my music is," Cummins says in a press release. "The truth, a catchy groove, and some soul."
