On Monday afternoon (April 19), Smith's truck, a black Ford F-150, was stolen from Hotel Emma in San Antonio's Pearl Historic District with Gretchen inside it. On Tuesday (April 20), a family found the dog tied to a tree along a trail in Leon Valley.

While Smith's truck has yet to be recovered, the singer said the truck can be replaced, unlike Gretchen, who's a member of the family.

"She's very much like the center of our little family," Smith said (quote via KSAT).

On April 20, Smith offered a $10K reward for the return of the 10-pound gray and white Havanese dog.

"My truck with our little lap dog was just stolen — she was inside of the truck when the truck was stolen," Smith said in a video posted to Instagram on Monday.

Smith's truck was later found abandoned at St. Luke's Hospital east parking garage, but Gretchen was nowhere to be found.

Smith offered a reward in hopes that someone will spot the dog and bring her back to her owners.

"We're offering a $10,000 reward to anyone that will return the dog back to us," Smith said. "If as many people as possible can be looking out on the streets trying to see if she's running around — I don't know if she was dumped out of the truck."

According to a post on Smith's Instagram account, the stolen truck stopped at the Quarry Shopping Center around 2:50 p.m.

"Not sure if Gretchen was dropped there or why exactly they stopped there," the post reads.

Smith's wife Lauren Smith told KSAT that the truck was stolen once again on Monday evening because the person who originally stole the vehicle took the keys with them. (Security guards at the hospital parking garage left their post, Smith told KSAT).

"The truck and belongings aren't significant, but we are desperate to get our dog back," Lauren Smith told KSAT.

The San Antonio Current reports that Gretchen is microchipped with the chip ID of 985112007383851.
