Rooted in Country: Brooke Eden Says LeAnn Rimes' 'Blue' Taught Her the First Steps of Being an Artist

This year, country singer-songwriter Brooke Eden has reintroduced herself to fans by telling her story through songs such as "Sunroof" and "Got No Choice," inspired by her relationship with her fiancee Hilary Hoover.

These days, living and loving out loud is central to Eden's music. (The Florida native publicly came out as gay in January after years of being told to hide her sexuality by several in the country music industry.) But sharing her truth and evoking emotion from audiences has always been Eden's goal -- going back to when she was a girl belting out LeAnn Rimes' 1996 hit "Blue."

"I started singing 'Blue' by LeAnn Rimes when I was nine. I was just a kid and had never been 'blue' over anyone at the time, but I remember when she sang it, I felt it. I felt the ache in her voice and I remember that song making me realize that music can create an emotion and I wanted to evoke a feeling from my audiences," Eden tells Wide Open Country. "Whether that be longing, like in 'Blue' or empowering like 'Any Man Of Mine.' That song taught me one of the first steps of becoming a true artist."

Eden, who's shared the stage with Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks and more, released her debut EP Welcome to the Weekend, featuring "Act Like You Don't," in 2016.

"What's cool about my story is that I've already gotten to do this one time," Eden says in a press release. "I think it's cool that I get to do this again with music that I love so much and music that says something that I want to say."
