An Alabama man killed his own "Hogzilla" earlier this week after an 820 pound wild hog wandered onto his property.

According to AL.com, it all began when Samson, Ala. resident Wade Seago investigated why his pet schnauzer Cruiser wouldn't stop barking. The Seagos live on 100 acres near Dothan, so it's not unusual for Cruiser to be startled by wildlife. This, however, wasn't your run of the mill deer or raccoon invading a protective dog's turf. "Cruiser had this huge hog confused with all of the barking and movement," Seago said. "It was not a good situation."
After spotting the massive wild hog just five yards away from his front porch, Seago killed it with three shots from a .38 caliber revolver. Due to its massive size, the hog was weighed at a local peanut company.
Feral hogs are a game animal in Alabama with no closed season and no bag limits, meaning they can be shot on private land every day of the year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that feral hogs cause more than $800 million of agricultural and property damage in the United States annually, so Seago protected more than his pet.

Seago told the Associated Press that his family won't be feasting on hog. "It's so humid down here, it had to hang all night. I wouldn't trust the meat," he said.
Instead, the professional taxidermist plans to display his big kill at work.
The Sampson beast wasn't even the biggest wild hog recorded this century in Alabama. In 2005, 11-year-old Jamison Stone of Pickensville killed a hog that reportedly weighed a whopping 1,051 pounds.
