Ben Selecman was 28 years old. An assistant district attorney for the Davidson Country District Attorney's Office in Nashville, Selecman married Alan Jackson's daughter Mattie in Franklin, Tenn. in October 2017.
There's limited information about the incident or circumstances surrounding his injuries. However, Nashville DA Glenn Funk issued a statement after Selecman's passing.
"He was really a rising star, and I'm sick that we lost him," Funk says. "But I'm grateful for every day that he worked for us because he was great." The DA's office is "thankful for every day that Ben had the opportunity to serve the people of Davidson County," according to Funk. "Our prayers are with Ben's family. He will be truly missed."
Jackson has yet to issue a statement about the tragedy. The country star recently canceled several shows scheduled in North Carolina and South Carolina due to Hurricane Florence. Jackson plans to reschedule his Sept. 14 and 15 shows. Jackson also canceled performances several weeks ago due to a respiratory infection.
This is a developing story.
