See if You Agree With Your State's Pick of the Best Hard Seltzer

Hard seltzer took America by storm in 2019, so popular that that summer was dubbed the "Summer of White Claw," and there was a national shortage that fall. Although White Claw is the most well-known hard seltzer, some seltzer lovers swear by other brands like Truly Hard Seltzer and Bud Light Seltzer. Joybird decided to take the debate into its own hands by finding the most beloved hard seltzer in every state. Do you agree with your state's pick of the best hard seltzer?

Hard seltzer is the delicious combo of sparkling water and alcoholic beverages, providing the refreshing carbonation of a Lacroix, Kombucha or tonic water, but with the added buzz of alcohol. The hard seltzer market is full of tasty options that add an extra kick to your vodka soda, from zero sugar seltzers to fruity ones to even rosé seltzers. Most of these yummy seltzers have an ABV around 5% and can be found your local liquor store or online at Drizly or Amazon.

As much as everyone loves seltzer, we were surprised to find that Joybird is actually a furniture company. As random as this might seem, a representative explained the inspiration by telling Thrillist, "Joybird creates furniture to complement life and give people an environment to entertain and enjoy each other's company. This includes staying up to date on the latest in food/beverage trends so hosts can always have a drink that will entice their guests."

What Are the Best Hard Seltzers in Each State?

The company found this data by using Google search data, looking at Google search volume over a period of a year. The results were unsurprising, showing White Claw Hard Seltzer as the favorite hard seltzer across the country. White Claw was voted as the best hard seltzer in 35 states. The next most popular seltzer category was Natural Light Seltzer, in 7 states, including Delaware, Alabama, Kansas and Missouri.

After these top two seltzers was Bud Light Seltzer, chosen as the best in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. There were also some outliers, like High Noon Seltzer, which was the favorite of Texas and California. We're surprised that Texas didn't go with Topo Chico Hard Seltzer Ranch Water, but it seems that High Noon has even more supporters. Press Hard Seltzer, Vista Bay and Four Loko were also the favorites in one state each.

Joybird also did a second study, evaluating the most popular hard seltzers for a two-week period during the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. This sample size garnered similar results, except that Corona Hard Seltzer was selected by seven states as well, likely because of how similar it's name is to the word "coronavirus."
