According to Saving Country Music, the news was confirmed by Shaver's guitar player and tour manager Jeremy Lynn Woodall. Apost from New Braunfels venue Riley's Tavern states that Shaver was admitted to an unknown hospital on April 14. There are no more details relating directly to his condition at this time.
The hospitalization has forced the 77-year-old to cancel two dates in Texas that were scheduled for this weekend. Both concerts are expected to be rescheduled in the coming weeks.
Shaver has dealt with an array of health issues over the years. Rumors swirled that he was on his deathbed last May after another sudden hospitalization. His rep later reported that the issue was actually just a minor bout with food poisoning.

Although Shaver is still being treated, he was just announced as a performer at Willie Nelson's 2017 4th of July Picnic. He also has nearly a dozen other dates plotted out through the end of the year, so it doesn't seem like he plans to slow down any time soon.
Wide Open Country wishes Billy Joe a speedy recovery. We'll keep you posted with any updates on his condition as they happen.
