The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway Is the Best Way to See the Southeast's Fall Foliage

There's no better way to experience the beautiful landscape than on a historic train. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway will take you through the Appalachian Foothills of North Georgia so you can see all of the beautiful countryside and changing colors of the autumn leaves. The railroad itself dates back to the early 1900's so you'll get a glimpse of what it was like to travel by train back in the day. Can you think of a better way to take in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall?

The special Fall Foliage trip will be running from September 20 to November 11 this year. It's the most popular ride of the year for a reason. Rides depart at 10 AM, 11 AM, or 3 PM on select days so make sure to book ahead. You can choose from an open-air railcar, closed coach or premier coach depending on what kind of experience you're looking for. Prices range from $55/person to $90/person for adults.

The 26-mile train ride is four hours round trip and will start at the historic depot in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia. You'll travel along the beautiful Toccoa River through the lush Chattahoochee National Forest and you'll have one hour layovers in the quaint sister towns of McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee, along the way before your return trip to Blue Ridge.

The two-hour layover will give you plenty of time to explore the little towns and everything they have to offer this time of year. The two towns share a historic downtown area which maintains its old timey feel from when the town was thriving back in the early 1900s. Grab some ice cream, take in the changing leaves and shops, and enjoy the very relaxing trip back to the Blue Ridge station on this one-of-a-kind family adventure.
