The breakup follows some controversy around Bones and Ell. Since they went public with their romance, Bones's rival radio stations have been treating Ell unfairly.
"We started dating and I was like, 'We probably should think about this before we date because it could hurt your career.'" Bones told his listeners. "'Other radio stations, Spotify, they're going to hold it against you that you're dating me. I don't even know these people but they're going to hold it against you.' And they did."
Fans rallied around Ell following a Sacramento radio station canceling her appearance because of her "personal life." Yet, Bones told Billboard that a dozen other radio personalities were avoiding Ell because she was dating him.
"It felt like, all of a sudden, you can't be a powerful female with goals and dreams and date another powerful person," Ell said of the experience.
Bones admitted during his recent broadcast that these cases of blackballing affected their relationship. He says that he "felt it was my fault because she wasn't able to get anything going."
He cites that, if she were a male artist, it is likely that none of this would have happened. Then, he continues, "She finally puts out a record and the record goes No. 1 and then radio stations all over the country won't play it because she's dating me."
So, there you have it. Bobby Bones and Lindsay Ell are no longer an item. Ell has yet to address the breakup head-on but shared a recent Twitter update with the caption "Breathe."
