One of Brad's quirkier DIY moments last year came when his one of his 11-year-old son Jasper's pufferfish wasn't acting like itself.
"My son had four pufferfish and was down to two — and this one was losing weight," Brad tells People Magazine.
After some online sleuthing, Brad took a chance on curing what ailed a pet fish.
The country star added drops of clove oil to a bucket of water so the fish would sleep through a minor dental procedure involving a pair of clippers.
"You put him in the bucket, and he started to drift and go sideways, so I grabbed him in the net and held him," he said. "They've got like a beak, and I clipped it and thought I killed him — but he made it!"
"I've never seen him nervous before, but his hand was shaking," Brad's wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley recalled.
Brad added, "I have a friend who's a brain surgeon, and I called him going, 'Is it normal for your hand to do this?'"
Brad, Jasper and two pufferfish are joined at home by Jasper's brother, 14-year-old Huck, plus two dogs, snakes and a bearded dragon.

Brad's even kept a watchful eye on goose eggs during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
"He goes to great lengths to protect them," Kimberly adds. "Brad ran out at two in the morning (during heavy rain) to see if the goose eggs were OK."
During a separate interview with People, Brad and Kimberly shared the key to their relationship: togetherness and lots of laughter.
"We record the meaningful moments, the best laughs," Kimberly says of the couple's journaling strategy. "That's a big part of our relationship--focusing on the laughter and keeping a sense of play."
Brad says, even after nearly two decades of marriage, he and his bride still treasure every moment together.
"A lot of married couples would rather do anything but spend the evening together," he told People. "That's not the case in our house."
