Whitney Rose Ups the Retro Vibes in New Video for 'Can't Stop Shakin''

Videos by Wide Open Country

Austin-based, Canadian-born country music revivalist Whitney Rose celebrates classic go-go girl style in her new music video for "Can't Stop Shakin'." The cut from one of 2017's most overlooked albums, Rule 62, proves that Rose's knack for revitalizing past sounds while remaining forward-thinking extends to old-time rock 'n' roll.

While a lot of nods to past decades feel campy and forced, Rose's normal big hair and vintage outfit look make it easier than usual to suspend disbelief. Rockabilly singer Jolie Goodnight, burlesque dancer Frostine Shake and pinup model Ruby Joulie also pull off their looks and dance moves without a hitch. It's a case of four women with retro and subcultural interests that suit the director's vision. No pantomiming necessary.

The song itself displays Rose's varied talents and broad musical vision. She can pay tribute to her favorite rock records just as easily as she can write and perform a country ballad as powerful as the best 2017 song you're probably overlooking, "Trucker's Funeral."

"Can't Stop Shakin'" Lyrics

Something's got a hold of me
It won't let me be

I can't stop shakin'
I can't stop shakin'

Now I'm losing all control
Right down to my soul

I can't stop shakin'
I can't stop shakin'

Come on, baby, hold me close
Don't make me shake all alone

I can't stop shakin'
I can't stop shakin'

Help me make it through the night
Keep on holding me tight

I can't stop shakin'
I can't stop shakin'

Someone please turn off the news
I got the six o'clock blues

I can't stop shakin'
No, I can't stop shakin'

I ain't gonna let him win
No, I ain't givin' in

I can't stop shakin'
I can't stop shakin'
