This easy appetizer recipe combines cream cheese and sharp cheddar cheese for a mix of flavors and textures. It also incorporates red onion, cranberries, sage, thyme, and chopped pecans, providing an irresistible mix of fall flavors in this classic cheese ball.

These homemade cheese balls can be enjoyed with pretzels, crackers, bagels, pita chips or even pieces of bread. Make them for the annual holiday party at New Years or Christmas, or enjoy them whenever you're feeling an indulgent, cheesy snack.

How to Make an Autumn Cheese Ball

Using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add in the cheddar cheese, red onion, dried cranberries, sage and thyme, and mix until fully incorporated. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Remove cheese mixture from the fridge and roll into a ball using your hands to smooth. Roll entire ball in pecans and wrap tightly with plastic wrap and chill 2 hours. Serve with crackers.

It's not a party without a cheeseball and this Autumn Cheeseball hits the nail right on the head. Beware, this cheeseball goes fast at parties.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 8-oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 Tbsp minced red onion
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 tsp minced sage
  • 1 tsp fresh minced thyme
  • 2 cups chopped pecans
  • crackers to serve

Instructions
 

  • In an electric mixer beat cream cheese until smooth. Add the cheddar cheese, red onion, dried cranberries, sage and thyme, and mix until incorporated. Chill 30 minutes.

Notes

You can add a dash of hot sauce into the cheese mixture for a bit of heat.
