Chip and Joanna Gaines are inviting us all to take in their hometown of Waco in a completely different light. The couple just announced plans to host the Silo District Marathon on May 6, 2018 in Waco, Texas, and everyone is invited to register.

Since each participant has their own skills and abilities, the Gaines are holding three types of marathons. The full marathon, 26.2 miles, begins at 7 while the half marathon, 13.1 miles, starts at 7:30. They also have a 5K marathon, just 3.1 miles, for those who can't run so many miles.
Naturally, it may seem confusing as to why the Gaines would host this type of event. However, the story behind the decision is really a special one. Chip's been training to run a marathon for quite some time. You can learn more about his journey on his blog.
It was during this training process that he met a special woman, Gabe, in New York City. According to Chip, Gabe's been fighting a rare cancer for years, but that hasn't stopped her from being a professional mid-distance runner.
Her story became a source of inspiration for Chip and Joanna Gaines. Eventually, Chip decided he didn't just want to run a marathon. He also wanted to host one to help raise money for rare cancer research. They plan to give 100% of their profits from the marathon in May to cancer research.
It's really great to see how Chip and Joanna are remaining in the public eye even after they've decided to end their hit show on HGTV. It seems as though fans will have plenty of opportunities to keep up with their lives even as they begin to slow down a bit in the future.
