If you make homemade chocolate whipped cream, it can be used for a lot more than just coffee, too. You can put it on cupcakes, ice cream, brownies, chocolate cake, cheesecake, and so much more. And it's surprisingly easy to make with very few ingredients if you want to keep it simple.

The simplest way to make chocolate whipped cream requires just a few ingredients: chocolate, heavy cream, and sugar. Some recipes call for bittersweet versus semisweet chocolate, some call for cocoa powder, some add vanilla extract, and some call it heavy whipping cream.

Some recipes add powdered sugar versus granulated sugar, but most whipped cream recipes will end up the same way if you are looking for something simple. It's when you get into chocolate mousse, ganache, or buttercream frosting recipes to go with simple chocolate whipped cream that things get a little more complicated.

For this recipe, grab 3 ounces of chocolate (either bittersweet or semisweet), 1 cup of heavy cream, and 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar/confectioner sugar. Make sure to chop up the chocolate or get some that is already chopped. You'll also need mixing bowls, a saucepan, and beaters. That's basically it!

After putting all the ingredients together, put the chopped chocolate in a bowl. Then, in a heavy saucepan, add your heavy cream before putting in the powdered sugar. Heat it on medium heat until it's boiling. When it's hot, pour the cream over the chocolate until it's melted.

Cover the concoction and chill it for several hours. After it's sufficiently cold, beat the whipped cream by hand or with an electric mixer/hand mixer. Refrigerate for another hour or so before using, and you're good to go!

A whipped cream frosting can be used on a layer cake or similar treat, but chocolate whipped cream is also great to just add a spoonful of to your coffee. Why not give it a chance?
