Over the past few years, Chris Stapleton has moved from an underrated Nashville talent to one of country music's biggest names. But his story started all the way back in 2001, when he began to pursue songwriting as a career. After years of hard work and forging relationships in Nashville, he became the lead vocalist for the acclaimed bluegrass group the SteelDrivers.
In the clip above, you'll see Stapleton performing alongside fellow members of the SteelDrivers in 2008. Instead of rolling electric guitar, his gritty vocals are accompanied by soaring harmonies and plucky banjo. Just two years later, he'd leave the band to create his own Southern rock project, the Jompson Brothers. But 2015 marked the true blossoming of his career with the release of Traveller, the breakthrough solo LP that has already become a country classic.

If you haven't seen Chris Stapleton live, you have a few more chances coming next year. He has a handful of dates currently scheduled for 2018, but don't count out another large tour coming next spring. He's currently taking a break from touring to prepare for the arrival of two new additions to his family.
