Colter Wall tips his hat to a homeland hero on his new song "Calgary Round-Up," a cover of a classic Canadian cowboy tune by legendary Alberta cowboy Wilf Carter. Carter, who may be better known to American audiences as Montana Slim, is a member of both the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Wall's rich baritone voice lends itself to the tale of cowboys making their way to the legendary Calgary Stampede, a huge outdoor rodeo and festival held every July in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Fittingly, Wall released the track just in time for the Stampede, which runs from July 6 through July 15.
Wall took to Instagram to announce the track and give a nod to the Alberta cowpunch yodeler himself. "Calgary Round-Up" is the first release from Wall's forthcoming album, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed self-titled 2017 record.

Wall, who hails from Saskatchewan, Canada, released his debut full-length album in 2017 via Thirty Tigers. Since then, the country traditionalist has opened for Margo Price and Lucinda Williams and joined fellow rising country singer Tyler Childers on tour.
Later this month, Wall will perform at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, R.I. He'll also take part in the Pickathon music festival in Happy Valley, Ore. and Cody Jinks' Loud and Heavy Festival in Fort Worth.
Wall is currently on tour across the United States and Canada. For a full list of tour dates, visit here.
'Calgary Round-Up' Lyrics:
We're headed for the round-up
Goin' to the big stampede
Old Dick Cosgrove's ridin' in the lead
Hear the rattlin' chuck wagon
And the snortin', buckin' broncs
We're headin' for the Calgary Stampede
Gather round the old chuck wagon
Fix you up some grub
Flip those flapjacks over in the pan
Old Jim Ross, the cookie, he sure can toss them up
Well his chuck is good enough for any man
We're a jolly bunch of cowboys and we hope you are the same
We have no cares, the laws we seldom heed
Come and gather in our circle and we'll sing this round-up song
Headin' for the Calgary Stampede
Well the guy who rode Old Steamboat, Jack Manley was his name
Better pal a cowpunch never knew
The way that guy could toss a rope, he'd take the lead in hand
And when you were stuck he'd always see you through
We're a jolly bunch of cowboys and we hope you are the same
We have no cares, the laws we seldom heed
Come and gather in our circle and we'll sing this round-up song
Headin' for the Calgary Stampede
