Ball formed the legendary Austin, Texas trio Uncle Walt's Band with Hyatt and Champ Hood. Ball credits Hyatt, who passed away in a plane crash in 1996, for shaping him as a songwriter and performer.
"If it wasn't for Walter [Hyatt], I never would have never gone into a career of music," Ball tells Wide Open Country. "My biggest break I've always thought was meeting Walter and getting to play music with him for all those years. He taught me a lot about writing songs, about singing, everything."
To celebrate the release of the tribute album, Ball is sharing a previously unseen Austin City Limits performance of "Houston Town" exclusively with Wide Open Country readers.
