What is Delicious Miss Brown?

The official Food Network page for the series says of the show: "Kardea Brown shares down-home, Southern recipes from her South Carolina kitchen."

It reveals that the caterer was born and raised "on the sea islands of Charleston, the heart of all Southern cooking, and learned to cook in her grandmother's kitchen on Wadmalaw Island." So sweet!

Who is Kardea Brown?

What else do we know about the chef? Food Network says Brown is "of Gullah/Geechee descent, a term used to describe a distinct group of African Americans living in the coastal areas of South Carolina and Georgia who have managed to preserve much of their West African language, culture, and cuisine." It also notes that she created the New Gullah Supper Club.

Not only is she the host of Delicious Miss Brown, but the chef has also appeared on Beat Bobby Flay, Chopped Junior, Cooks vs. Cons, Family Food Showdown, and Farmhouse Rules. In other words, she has quite the resume!

What Are Some of Her Southern Recipes?

What hasn't Miss Brown made? She has recipes for just about everything, and the Food Network website features a lot of her dishes. Some fan favorites include Carolina smothered chicken, cheesy creole breakfast skillet, brown butter cake, sweet jalapeno cheddar cornbread, and her super decadent mac and cheese recipe.

Another popular dish is her Low Country Boil, which contains kielbasa, corn, crab legs, and fresh shrimp. It says to add Old Bay spice but you could probably substitute cajun seasoning if you prefer that in your home cooking. It's a dish that would be great to bring to a BBQ, family reunion, Sunday supper, or even shrimp fest.

In the "Too Cute" Brunch episode of the show, she invited over her Aunt TC. Together they made shrimp and grits, buttermilk biscuits with apricot jam, and a hazelnut frappe. You can find all of those recipes online!

She's also got a delectable-looking big apple crumb cheesecake recipe, a recipe for pimento cheese-stuffed burgers, and a truly amazing pickle brined fried chicken with hot honey sauce recipe. You could make those burgers on a backyard grill and add sides like sweet potato fries or add whatever sides you want to along with the comfort food that is fried chicken. Sounds like the perfect combo for a picnic in the park or the big game day to me!
