Dwight Yoakam has been hard at work curating a channel for SiriusXM that will debut soon. The channel, called Dwight Yoakam and The Bakersfield Beat: "Where Country Went Mod," will center around the Bakersfield, Calif. sound that Yoakam was influenced by and helped to shape.

SiriusXM writes that those tuning in to the new channel should expect to hear the likes of "Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Wynn Stewart, Tommy Collins, The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Eagles, The Blasters, Lucinda Williams," along with even more diverse artists that were part of the 80s Bakersfield music scene that Yoakam came from like X and Los Lobos.
Yoakam's new channel will introduce music fans to artists that may not normally listen to, all while giving a solid wealth of knowledge on California country and country rock, including a segment called "That Town South of Bakersfield: "From Cow Punks To Now Punks."

The channel is currently finishing up a brief preview stage that ran from Friday, Feb. 23 through Monday, Feb. 26, but it will come back to the digital airwaves this spring. At this time, SiriusXM hasn't given the channel an official start date, but those interested can check back with SiriusXM's website to see when they can start tuning in.
